The Community has organised a Peace and Reconciliation Pilgrimage in connection with the Flodden 500 commemorations. The battle of Flodden was the bloodiest conflict between the English and Scottish nations. By journeying from some of the assembling places of the respective armies to the battlefield site to take part in the Solemn Commemoration service on Tuesday 10th September, pilgrims will be praying, journeying and reflecting on Scripture and on the issues of peace and reconciliation that relate not only to past conflicts but to the present realities of war in the Middle East and other parts of the world. Pilgrims are journeying on foot, by bike, car and public transport from Edinburgh, Linlithgow, Selkirk, Duns, Pontefract, Durham and Wooler, gathering together in the late afternoon and early evening of Saturday 7th September at Crookham, a village close to the battlefield site. There will be opportunities to join with the Pilgrims along the way. This Sunday, 1st September, we would be delighted to welcome folks who wish join us in prayer and send them on their way at 2 pm at the Chapel of the Holy Cross, in the precincts of Durham Cathedral, (ask cathedral stewards for directions). The first stage of the pilgrimage will take them to Chester-le-Street where, during the evening service at St Mary and St Cuthbert’s Church, they will be sharing and Roy Searle will be preaching.
